ANTIETAM BROADBAND JOINS THE FIGHT AGAINST ADDICTION
Supports New Sober Living Facility at Brooke鈥檚 House
December 20, 2018 - Hagerstown, MD. 草莓视频在线播放 Broadband announced today it has completed construction of the broadband infrastructure for Brooke鈥檚 House, a new Sober Living Facility for Women in Washington County, MD. In addition to their build contribution, 草莓视频在线播放鈥檚 more than $30,000 in-kind donation will provide the new facility with three years of high-speed internet service and wireless services.
Brooke鈥檚 House is a community-based sober living center for adult women in the early stages of substance abuse recovery. The opening of Brooke鈥檚 House is in honor of Brooke Simmers, who passed away from a heroin overdose at the age of 19 back in 2015. Brooke's parents, Kevin and Dana Simmers, founded this center to help women like their daughter. As a former police officer, Kevin Simmers was on the front line in the fight against drug addiction in Washington County.
鈥淏rooke鈥檚 House bold vision is to provide a place of safety and recovery for women,鈥 said Kevin Simmers, co-founder of Brooke鈥檚 House. 鈥淲e see a growing need for facilities aimed at the care and recovery for women since they face a more challenging path to finding and staying sober. Without appropriate facilities women are often subjected to both emotional and physical abuse. We hope that Brooke鈥檚 House can be a small step in leveling the treatment options for women in Washington County,鈥 said Simmers.
When completed, Brooke鈥檚 House will provide state-of-the-art treatment and recovery services and resources to help residents move forward with a drug free life. The 8,300 square foot facility will house 16 women. The facility will provide treatment in three stages. The center鈥檚 goal is for residents to leave Brooke鈥檚 House with marketable skills for success in the world. Residents will have the opportunity to finish their GED鈥檚 and learn business skills in the on-site Hair Salon and Chocolate businesses. The Simmers鈥 hope is that each women鈥檚 legal issues will be resolved during their stay, and residents will leave with a job for a year, on-going treatment and a fresh start.
